The Bodmer papyruses, acquired by Martin Bodmer in Cairo in 1952, make up the core of what was, in Antiquity, a library. Among various Greek and Coptic texts, they notably include the Codex de Ménandre and the Codex des Visions. Copied at the end of the fourth or the beginning of the fifth century AD, the Codex des Visions contains several Greek texts: the first three visions of Hermas's Pasteur, which was considered in its time to rank with the Gospels, as well as poems that had remained unpublished until now. This collection of papers given at the Charles Bally colloquium throws fresh light on the people who assembled the library and on the type of Christianity that they practised.
