Joyaux de l'Antiquité. La collection d'un amateur (Benoit de Gorski, Genève)

The Genevan jeweler Benoit de Gorski, fascinated by classical archaeology, collected in a few decades fifty some antiquities, without any precise objective or system, acquiring only whatever caught his fancy. Among the major works of his collection must be cited a woman’s head in marble, a Greek original from c. 300 B.C.; a small Hermes in bronze, which belonged to George Spencer-Churchill; an intaglio in amethyst, with the portrait of Geta imperator; and, in the Etruscan domain, a great hydria illustrating a famous episode of the Trojan War, the ambush in which perished Troilus, youngest son of king Priam. Text by Jacques Chamay, with the collaboration of Frederike van der Wielen. Preface by Alain Pasquier.
