The Cardinal Jean du Bellay’s correspondence is an essential historical tool thanks to his role as prelate under the kings Francis I and Henry III, in France and abroad. The publication of the numerous and diverse extant letters was undertaken in 1905, 1969 and 1973, and is now being continued by Rémy Scheurer and Loris Petris. The third tome closes the reign of Francis I with three hundred letters from 1537-1547, various additional texts, and a cumulative index of all the letters from the reign of Francis I. An online database accompanies this edition (www.unine.ch/jeandubellay).
