The Renaissance is rich in tales and dreams of flight, from lunar voyages to knights travelling the world on the backs of flying hippopotamuses. This study explores French and European narrative fiction, as well as erudite discussions of flight and elevation (cosmography, astronomy, magic, demonology, etc.). In this dialogue between literature and science, the strength of imaginary flight and the richness elevating tales dominates the world and provides a window on "excentric" worlds. These tales of aerial voyage also shed unique light on the renewed concepts of Romanesque fiction and the realm of possibilities.
