This study is based on the rediscovery of the original handwritten biography of W. Musculus found by his son Abraham which is also edited here. Reinhard Bodenmann explains the circumstances of the writing of the Vita and of Musculus apprenticeship in ancient languages (Greek, Hebrew, and Arabic). It also contains letters to and from Musculus which enable the reader to understand the relation between Musculus and Bucer, Melanchthon, Calvin, Bullinger, Bonifacius Wolfhardt, Ambrosius Blaurer, Sixt Birk and Johannes Haller. To complete the work Musculus’ family and many events linking him with Strasbourg, Augsburg, the Palatinate, England and Bern are analysed.
