Jean Froissart's Melyador is the last known French medieval Arthurian romance in verse. The manuscript Paris, BnF, fr. 12557 contains the only almost complete version, probably redrafted in the 1380s with the collaboration of its patron, Wenceslas de Bohême, presumed author of the lyric insertions. In a creative language, composed of old and modern features, and in a very personal style, the complex romance recounts love stories, knightly adventures, sumptuous tournaments and feasts in the best tradition of the courtly chivalry of Britain, not without amusing reflection on the genre. Introduced by a philological, linguistic and literary presentation, and including copious notes and a comprehensive glossary and index, this new integral edition delivers an established text that respects the remarkable features of the manuscript, throwing light on the text and raising knowledge of fourteenth-century French.
