D’une "Lolita" l’autre : Heinz von Lichberg et Vladimir Nabokov

In 1916 Heinz von Lichberg, journalist long since forgotten, published a short story called Lolita - almost forty years before Vladimir Nabokov's famous novel. How did Lolita go from a pale sketch to a masterpiece of world literature? Michael Maar examines E. T. A. Hoffmann's influence on both authors; the literary circles that Nabokov frequented in Berlin from 1922 to 1937; the quotations and allusions that pepper his work as well as his own ironic exegesis of it; and the relationship between the source and the masterpiece that one would like to believe sprang out of nothing.
