Regnault et Janneton is a subtle and delicate pastoral poem that tells the bucolic story of the love between the shepherd Regnault and the shepherdess Janneton. The characters serve as doubles for King René of Anjou and his newly wed queen, Jeanne, and the poem is conserved as a unique manuscript in the Russian National Library. The work was commissioned with accompanying illustrations that surround and faithfully accompany the text. The text is lively, ably written and complex, and demonstrates the author's interests in descriptions of nature and animals. This critical edition is accompanied with a translation, notes, a glossary, and the reproduction of sixteen paintings from the manuscript.
