Cesar de Nostredame (1553-1629), although much less well known than his illustrious father, Nostradamus, is nonetheless a highly interesting personality. He was also a historian, a musician, a painter and a poet. This is the first critical edition of his religious verse and poetry that deserves to be better known both for its literary value and its variety. His poetry is extremely readable and captivating, full of striking images, reminiscent of other great French devotional poets of the same period with whom Nostredame deserves comparison: D'Aubigné, La Ceppède, Sponde et Du Bartas.
