The Catalan-Occitan Easter Play is the earliest extant Passion play in Old Occitan and may well be even older than its nearest rival in Old French, the Palatinus Passion. It represents a dramatic tradition very different from the Palatinus and other northern French Passion plays and is much closer to the liturgy. This new edition of the Catalan-Occitan Easter Play is published with a parallel translation in modern French and an essay on the socio-historical backdrop to the play, namely the multicultural cities of Palma and Perpignan and the worlds of the Counts of Barcelona and the kings of Majorca.
